Self-Frosting Oatmeal Cookies

1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup white sugar
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups quick oatmeal
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda

In large bowl, cream sugars and shortening. Add vanilla and eggs and beat until very fluffy. Add dry ingredients and beat well. Add oatmeal and mix well. Chill dough for two or more hours.

Shape dough into balls the size of walnuts. Roll in a coating made of the following ingredients:

1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts

Mix these two ingredients together in a small bowl. Place the coated cookies 2 inches apart from each other on a greased cookie sheet. Flatten cookies slightly and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
