Johnny Cake

1 cup cornmeal
1 cup sifted flour

1 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

4 teaspoons baking powder

1 egg

1 cup milk

1/4 cup shortening

Beat dry ingredients together and add egg, milk, and shortening. Mix till smooth. Bake in an 8X8 inch pan or in muffin tins for 20-25 minutes at 425 degrees.
